    Default DIY mezzanine floor.

    Hi everyone!!

I am considering building a mezzanine floor in my band rehearsal studio and would appreciate a little help and guidance as to what to do.

The total area I want to work with is approx. 11mtr x 6mtr and would be at a height of roughly 3mtrs.

I work for a timber and boards company so obviously the most inexpensive materials to use would be timber( steel frames, posts etc. are just WAY too expensive here).

I thought about using 100x100 posts as support for the floor and 50x150 rafters for the main horizontal support beams. I'm going to be building 3 "drywall" rooms ontop of this level so there will be quite a bit of weight on it. 21mm Shutterply or 32mm MDF will more than likely be the best bet for the actuall floor.

Does anyone know what sort of spacing is necesarry for the vertical posts and horizontal beams in order for this floor to be "safe"? and if ,in actual fact, this is the safest way to build a mezzanine floor of such a size?

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

The posts shuld be fine. I have a free-standing mezzanine floor which is 6x4.5m, consisting of 12 100x100 spotted gum posts, 200x50 spotted gum and flooded gum main beams spanning the 4.5m at a spacing of 1.2m and 100x50 flooded gum floor joists at 450 spacing, with a 20mm T&G floor. There is a structural wall that runs across the structure about halfway along. I have had up to 6 tonnes of timber stored up there with no significant deflection of the floor.
    Cheers,
    Craig
