    Default DIY outdoor kitchen ideas

Well i'm not sure where this should go, however, i need a hand designing and some ideas for an outdoor kitchen.

The area will be a 6x6 gable roof carport that will be used for a bbq where the pool was floor is all concrete pavers.

1 full side will be a long kichen table top with fridge, 6 burner bbq and kamado joe

What should the frame be built of? I'm thinking H4 treated sleepers as i dont want it to rot. Would normal pine or a similar easy to use material do the job?

For my counter top i'm using floor tiles for the main reason it's sealed, hard wearing, cheap and can be hosed off.

Do i want cupbards or not? i was thinking of making the fascia out of timber decking (or mod timber) but now im thinking tiling it with doors.

Just open up for idea really worried about frame choice

    cheers guys

Not sure what look you want, but I been involved in a few around Melbourne made in the same way as normal melamine kitchens but using a product called Cowdroy Nema. This is a closed cell plastic sheet that can be sawn, drilled, routed, edged, assembled just like melamine. Unaffected by moisture or water, UV etc. Seems to being used in some floodprone areas for internal kitchens as well. Does not like direct contact with heat, so we line the BBQ recess with fibro as a heat barrier. Some customers have tiled the recess prior to installing the BBQ, others have the recess sized to be a clearance fit for the selected BBQ so it mostly hides the liner. Most of the units we have done have had custom Ali framed frosted doors, but you could go with whatever you like provided that it would cope with moisture. If you have LPG gear, remember that the bottle compartment needs to be vented and have good circulation to prevent gas buildup in the event of a leak.

    Hope this helps.

Yea was thinking about Ali or stainless or steel frame but lack the skills to weld it. But may
look into it more. The cabinetry i think will be the challenging side of things.

Were can u get that sheeting stuff?

what grade pine could I use h3?

Nema should be available from Cowdroy retailers. They do slider door tracks, rollers etc as well and there seems to be a lot lot of places stocking the hardware lines. These places should be able to obtain the sheet material to order. My local Bunnings stok the tracks and hardware so would probably be able to get it in to order. We were ordering wholesale from Cowdroy direct. The stuff is not cheap, about 2.5 times the price of moisture resistant melamine particleboard, but it is ducks guts for moisture resistance and workability, and similar in price but a lot lighter than marine ply.

Sorry, can't make suggestions for pine etc as I haven't used solid timber in this sort of application.

    Default What?

What, no wood fired, stone floor pizza oven?
No Spit roast rotisserie pit, for pig/sheep on the spit?

No Hungy Pit, for when your your Kiwi bros come round?

No Fire pit for Putting a few camp ovens into?

Everyone has a webber kettle and gas BBQ - but REAL men have a proper outdoor kitchen!

We must have different ideas what an outside kitchen should have in it!

Stainless double bowl sink...stainless fridge (for the beer keg of course) plumbed to the outdoor bar taps.
(Fridge has to have a freezer and ice maker machine).

    Outdoor stainless dish washer...

Cuboard for the High Pressure washer to clean up the next day!

Recess for 2 full sized wheelie bins... (where else you gonna put the emptys)?

Lift up seat with huge esky underneath for the ice for the drinks (Thats why the fridge has to have an ice maker - you can't be seen buying bagged ice).

Outdoor slab table with 2 slab trestle stools for everyone to sit round.

    Moosic maker and speakers.

    Lights

    Dancing gals.

6 x 6 meters is a little tight - but with a bit of forum ingenuity.... we will squeeze it all in - then get ready for the forum get togethers!
