Restrained indeed I have to in a public place like this but i try not too in other settings like an office for example. Put a serious handbrake on my corporate life.

Borer I think i might like to discuss you "Beliefs" a bit further but i dont think the forum would enjoy the exchange and I also suspect we would find ourselves on opposite sides of the political divide despite both agreeing on many things

Getting it done by someone else will always be cheaper...... because they don't give a $#@T.
This is the principle of out sourcing.

Most of "these" management types don't understand the difference between quality and price.

AND they have expensive stuff, not because the need it, or they realy know the difference, or it makes any diference to their life, but so the can ponce arround thinking they are better than the rest of us.

aaaarrrr..... dont get me started

Now there are a couple of blokes on this forum who are "seriously loaded", but they are nice normal people who live in normal houses and drive decent bit normal cars.

I would agree that generally if it's within your means timewise, you have no excuse for not doing it yourself. With no experience with most of it when we bought our first house, my motto became "Man made it, and a man can fix it". I didn't always do the best job, but I held my head up when I sold it. Having said that, I did pay a guy to stop by and cut the grass every two weeks at my last house so that I could enjoy the finer gardening jobs.
As well as it maybe taking us longer than a "pro", we haven't factored in the cost of the brand new tools always required to do each job.


I guess if you've tried to do the job at least once before, you'd know exactly what your money is worth hiring someone to do it for you. Try being the key word there.

Well said but if you have serious money whats wrong with driving a special car or buying a special piece of art or taking a holiday in space. Spending money or making money does not make you a wanker any more than not haveing money or not spending it makes you a great bloke !

As to DIY, well there is no better way to learn. That said, though, there is the issue of scale. Some of the things I've done in the past, I wont do again, as time and money will be against me. Put simply, I cannot afford to do some things myself, as I want to do other things I like to do, and, have to do things to pay the every increasing bills.

As much as I hate to say it, Peter's right, projects suck.

There is nothing wrong with having nice stuff if you can afford it but it isnt necessary to be a wanker about it.... thats the point.

there are properly rich people, there are rich wankers, and there are wankers who try hard to look like they are rich.
