Double Sided Tape
Probably a silly question, but can someone, please, explain "double sided tape" to me??
I've seen a LOT of references to using this material for various purposes, but the only DST that I have seen has been the type used for hanging pictures, mirrors, etc. (i.e. approx 2 mm thick with a foam core). The articles I've seen seem to imply that the DST refered to is quite thin........ i.e. like sellotape.
Two Qs????
1. Is the mirror hanging DST what is being refered to???
2. If not, what is the proper name for what I am looking for and where do I buy/aquire it??
Thanks
Craig

double sided tape is a thin usually clear tape that has adhesive both sides. You can get it in various widths. I use it where I want a temporary hold , for example, lining up drawer fronts evenly before clamping and screwing onto cabinet drawers.
It is also available in a heavier version that carpet layers use for joining vinyl and carpet joins. Selley's and 3M are brands that are freely available at most hardware stores. Even our local Woolworths has some in the hardware part of their store.

Double Sided Tape
Craig
What is often reffered to as double sided tape is 'Doubled Sided Foam Adhesive' which is used for fixing picture hooks etc and is a layer of foam with advesive both sides usually exposed by removing a cover of paper.
The tape I think used by most woodworkers when needing to temporarily hold two surfaces together is 'Carpet Tape' which can be purchased at Bunnies. Carpet tape is thinner than Double Sided Foam Adhesive and more suitable for woodworking tasks.
