Double-Thick Cabinet/Case Frames
Modern cabinets, bookcases, wardrobes sometimes look as if they are constructed from 40mm wide material. I really like this look for bookcases, office built-ins, etc.
Some examples

How are these double thick frames/cases constructed? I would be really disappointed if the answer was 2 x laminated 19mm boards, that seems like it would add excessively to the weight. Is it more of a torsion-box construction with 6mm or 9mm skins? Whatever way it is typically done, how well would it apply to free-standing furniture e.g. bookcase.
Thanks Everyone
Evan

I don't know about the more expensive brands, but I know IKEA which has a lot of that 40mm stuff (Expedit shelving for example) makes it out of particleboard.

The Ikea 40mm stuff (that we have at home in a couple of bookcases) seems to be a torsion box style with perhaps a honeycomb cardboard core. It is very light. The 19mm is solid particleboard.
