    Default Dovetail a Day

Has anyone else taken this plan on? I just started yesterday in an effort to build on my handtool skills. These are pretty fun to do and are a great way to spend some time focusing and thinking.

Here are my Day One efforts.

Certainly a good start - only another 30 to go.

As an aside, even width dovetail pins and tails only started when machine cut dovetails became the norm. Before that the Pins were very narrow against the wider tails. I say this as the wide/narrow effect lets people looking at it know it's hand cut, not machined.

Maybe as you progress you can have ago at the traditional layout.

Excellent point Dragonfly! I will shake up the layout after a bit more practice. At some point I'll want to move on to something harder then pine too.

Art, it is getting pretty dang cold up this way!

Don't forget to throw in some mitres into the layout ever now and then. maybe some half blinds as well.

Stuff up get sorted at the assembly point and 9 times out of 10 are far less of a disaster that you first thought,

One last thought just before you start run the blade up your arm...if it doesn't shave hair go and sharpen it.

Just a point of interest I used a H&S 3/8" Beveled Chisel and cut 90 tails before it needed re honing.
I was building with Spanish Cedar.

    Nice one Trent
