Dowel Jig
Hi,
I am making several large frames with mitred corners that i was going to join with dowels. I tried making a jig but the result was not quite accurate enough. M&T is not an option and I don't have the cash for a Dominio so I was hoping someone could recommend a dowel jig, preferably under $100.
Thanks for your help.

Rockler has something. It is for 3/8 inch dowels.

The disadvantage is that the jig will position the holes in the middle of a 3/4" piece of timber. YMMV
I don't know if the product is available in Australia. If not contact me off line and we may be able to work something out.

I have that jig and it works very well,if you loosen the screws and pack under the clear perspex you can make it centre on thicker stock.I have several packers(marked for each thickness stock) for various size stock which I store away with the jig.
Just make sure that you clamp it very tight before drilling.

Hi you could try biscuit joints if you have access to one and the timber is wide enought to use one.
Alternatively you could cut a slot on a router table and make your own splines.

I have successfully used the Ozzie Multi Jig on mitre joints. Their website does not seem to be working anymore. If you google Ozzie jig there are some videos and other information. Their Phone no used to be: 02 9801 8883.
So I am not sure if the jigs are still available.
