    Default dowels

I seem to have accumulated about 100 bits of tassie oak dowel, 16mm diameter and each about 500 mm long. Has anyone got any ideas what I could make them into? Or use them for? Maybe something musical?
I used a few not long ago as rollers to move my aquarium to another room. Apart from that I'm stumped. I just know you guys will have some wonderful suggestions.

Mate, the thread moved as I was responding....

    Where do we start,

    Dumb obvious suggestions,

    • Drumsticks, the expendable kind that drummers throw to screaming fans,
    • beaters for gongs etc, just add a rubber ball to the end

    More interesting ideas,

    • If there is any tap tone in the dowel, a whole bunch of xlyophony type instruments open up. Attach different lengths to a drum / tin / soundboard. Think wooden Kalimba type instruments.
    • Arrange dowels of varying lengths in a wheel around a drum to make a turning xylophony thingy, could even be wind assisted,
    • If you are up to it you could rig lights that respond to various sticks being hit, or bowed creating a lightshow with sounds
    • The sticks will make swooshing noises as they are swung through the air. Different lengths will have different terminal velocities and chords could be constructed. Think Aeolian harp on the back of your motorcycle...
    • Get a group of soon to be ex friends. Hit each in turn with a stick. Each will make a unique sound, Viola! a moaning orchestra / ensemble.

I'll let you know if anything else jumps out at me.......

Nice work Seb, can I get some of that medication you must be on.

I hadn't got past sticking them together to make curtain rods!

Beaters and drumsticks I have plans for them.
