Drawer Runners
I'm seeking some advice please.
I'm currently constructing a tallboy to match some bedside tables I built a couple of years ago. Attached is an image of one of the two top drawer web frames that will each have two drawers. At the top of the image is a piece of scrap to indicate where the drawer divider will be located and behind that is the central drawer runner (without guides). The central runner is hard wood (merbau) and this trial fitting shows two loose tenons which will be glued into the front rail (kauri). The rear end of the runner won't be glued but also has two loose tenons.
I am concerned about wood movement (across the grain) of the runner and although I anticipate it will be minimal, I would not want to have problems at a later date. So my question is: would it be wiser to have one central tenon rather than the two I have at present? Or am I majoring on the minors?
Cheers
Brian

Your proposed construction method is pretty much the norm for cabinets that are wide enough to need the central stretcher.
Wood moves more across the grain than in the length of it.
Go with your first idea.Dragonfly
