    Default Drawer runners

Im looking to make a toolchest to get my stuff sorted and organised. Im thinking about 1.3m high, 1m wide with 5 drawers. Im looking for recommendations for relaible, sensibly priced drawer runners. Suggestions please,

I've just fitted out a tool cupboard with Blum drawer runners. Nice and smooth, easy to install. I can't remember what I paid for them as they were left over from a kitchen conversion I did a number of years ago.
[Check out Elraco, good range, excellent service.]

    Hi Geoff

You must be the only person in the world who cannot remember how expensive Blum stuff is.

The Elraco's look like good value - have you used them?

    Cheers

I've used Elraco for some drawer runners (not Blum) - great price and service (they had to replace a runner damaged in transit).
    Cheers.

    Hi Graeme,
I did the kitchen about 12 years ago and I've had the extra drawers sitting in a cupboard ever since. The drawer kits were just the slides and the metal side (see attached) and not the slides as advertised on Elraco. I guess the ones I have are a simpler design and are a lot cheaper.
(The kitchen was done on a budget as I'm a renter)

Not as expensive as Hafele I've learned.

They full extension runners Ray has at Elraco's are very good, I got a kitchen full of them(every shelf is on them...).
Ps they will take my full body weight, which is double the safety rating!

    Thanks guys.

Isn't it great the way this forum lets you learn from other peoples experience.

We all want value for money, but we are into DIY partly in response to the planned obsolescence and junk stocked by the major retailers.

Personally, I love full extension drawer runners - that extra access to the drawers effectively makes them larger. IMHO single extension runners are a false economy, or a superceded concept.

Has anyone found some full extension runners that they think are better value for money than the elraco's?

    Cheers

    Graeme

One of the magazines had a good article on runners a while ago. There are the 3/4 extension type with 2 main elements. You can get them for about $7 for 24" and they have a load rating about 30 kg. Next are the 3 element full extension which give about 45 kg and usually cost about $15-25 for 24". After that they get really dear really quick.

Mcjing have some as I recall, as does that online hardware someone linked to. Bunnings are expensive and have only a limited range.

They don't exist. I have a shed full of Elraco slides, well at least 50 drawers and they are value for money. To top it off their service is even better.

I'm a cheapskate. All my drawers and shelving are made from recycled timber.

Runners are timber and the drawers run on them. I glued strips of laminex to runner and drawer sides (bottoms) works well.
