Default Drawer Slides, Where to buy.

    Hello,

In the process of rebuilding a workshop after previous one burnt down. At the stage where attemping to sort storage options and looking to kit out a few benchs with drawers.

Looking for at the moment 24 500mm drawer slides, probably around the 45kg rating. Noticed timbecon have some on sale atm, has any one used them? Any good?
Other alternatives? Im in tasmania so that restricts where i can walk into but happy to order in.

Also a side discussion, peoples prefered drawer heights?

    Cheers.

I second the recommendation above. I purchased some of the Hafele full extension for my WIR and was very happy with them. I have purchased from the seller a number of times and never had an issue - local postage to Adelaide is great value, and so is the Titebond glue.
Now proudly sponsored by Binford Tools. Be sure to check out the Binford 6100 - available now at any good tool retailer.

    Hi,

I cannot comment on Timbecon ones but I know that Bunnings Goliath ones are not so good.

I have installed King slides (Taiwan made) in my recent workshop drawers which are priced similarly to Bunnings ones and are better quality. I got them from Drawer Systems :: Drawer Slides :: 500mm King Slide Full Extension Standard Runner with Lifetime Warranty . I have heard good things about Kia Ora ones as well. Blum and Hafele (German made) are the top end.

Re drawer sizes it comes down what you are storing in them. For chisels, rulers, marking knifes etc., I use a drawer height between 50 - 65mm. Handplanes are about 130 - 135 high so I use a drawer height of 150 - 160mm for those, smaller height if you are lying them sideways. 90 - 100 mm is a good in between size, probably good for storing router bits etc. I go for 200mm for larger items. Hope this helps.

Derek Cohen's recent thread on workbench drawers is a good one. Underbench cabinets

chatted about this on Friday in the prattle ... I ordered 20 pairs of 600mm ones from ebay Drawer Locking Ball Bearing Sliding Runners Full Extension Heavy Duty Draw Slide | eBay and whilst it may not mean a lot they are equal of the Goliath ones Bunnings are selling and probably the same as just about any other unbranded full extension slide you can buy but with the 500mm being under $9.00 a pair hard to pass up.

The secret with the ebay sellers seems to be find the number of pairs x order volume that nets the best price.
it seems the ones pippin link and the ones i bought do not come with screws but 6g pan heads are pretty common.

personally i've been working on a draw height around 95mm for a draw based on a 100mm space allowance.... the draws for the new bench will be 1 double height and 3 singles per cabinet like this
draws are approx 575 wide, 650 deep

    Cheers

Interested why you think the Goliath ones are not so good.... the self closing ones i'd agree are not great but the normal ones seem to work fine. They are for a workshop/garage

If you have an ABN, Wilson & Brad linked above are very good. Retail prices not so good though!

I have a lot of their push-to-open King slides in the shop. Also got a Kia Ora as a sample, and it seems very good (no PTO version though). (I like the PTO in the workshop so I don't have handles poking out)

Their action is a lot better than the green shed's goliaths, but if you're not after anything fancy like that, then I expect the goliaths would be fine.

The Kia Oras would work out pretty cheap in bulk.

They don’t operate as smoothly. At a similar price point I would go for King or Kia Ora. If a similar product is available at $9 then they are fine for the workshop .
