Are you lot taking the drawers out of solid timber dressers, chests of drawers and bedside tables that are put out on the nature strip ? Everytime I see one the drawers are gone !

Shopping for a house many years ago. In Tasmania. I found the place and eventually bought it. One of the things I liked was that there was enough headroom under the house to park the car. In fact, the owner had set aside part of the underspace as a workshop. He had some built-in cupboards, and a bench, with some sturdy drawers under.

Well, I have some tools. That bench will be useful. And the drawers, a bit knocked about looking, were solid.

So, the deal was done, settlement came, and moving in I went down to the under-house space to set up my workshop. Every drawer in the place was missing. I was stunned, as they say. It seemed obvious that it’s easier to pull out a drawer with your stuff and dump it in the car rather than empty the drawer and put the contents into a box. Bloody hell. Selfish bastard.

It’s probably the same with the stuff left on the medium strip. The thinking going along the lines: No room for the furniture but I need the stuff; I’ll just pull the drawer out. It’ll make for easy carrying.
