Default How to dress oddly shaped rough timber boards

Hello, I have just acquired a long 1800mm long triangular shaped piece of blackbean timber, about 200mm at the widest corner, roughly cut but none of the sides are square or parallel. At the widest point it is about 40mm thick, and at the pointy tapered end this reduces to about 20mm.

If I were to lay either side of it flat on a bandsaw, then the surface on the table is quite rough and uneven.

What would be the best way to approach the dressing of this by bandsaw, 6" jointer and thicknesser and table saw ?

Or should I chuck it away ?
    regards,

    Dengy

Got a picture of it.... blackbean is FAR too nice to just 'chuck away'.

Clamp something long and straight to it, then hit with a router which will give a flat reference on one edge to run off the fence on your tablesaw.
I make things, I just take a long time.

Decide what size pieces you want to get out of it, cross cut to shorter lengths, build a kind of sled for it to go on either the table saw or bandsaw and rip one side of each peice so that you have a reference face to work from and go from there.

. And I would not thickness it until you decide the end use. The variation in thickness could become a design feature.

At a furniture show I saw a three legged coffee table in huon pine and the top tapered from about 80mm to 30mm - the top was level - one leg was about 50mm longer than the other two. Looked great.

Great design and craftsmanship starts with an idea.

    Cheers

    Graeme
