    Default Bench vs Pedestal

    I too had the same dilemma a few months ago, trying to decide between the two types. I ended up buying the Hitachi B16RM with Laser for just over $500, no complaints.

    Whilst I had limited room, I could not afford to lose bench space or store it somewhere when not in use. The Pedestal gave me the extra length but also did not take that much room, no more then me having to store the bench when not in use.

    Well, there's another vote for a pedestal drill actually being more convenient when space is a premium. Here's a link to the model Jason mentioned - looks like a good machine for woodworking, with 190mm of quill travel, mine only has a little over half that....
