    Default Drill press recommendations,

Looking to buy a new belt drive drill press, can spend up to about $1200. Would prefer full pedestal, belt drive and no LCD screen. Can't seem to find a Laguna or Powermatic. Thanks for any suggestions, am in South East Qld.

I just bought a basic model from Woodwork Machinery Plus at Darra but Bill has a good range.

If you can stretch to $1600, the Nova Viking is really worth the money. The pedestal version is closer to $3000 but it also has a two horsepower motor.

You could be out of luck trying to find a Powermatic or Jet model. For reasons I do not understand, nobody sells these brands in AU anymore.

There is a very poor selection available of quality drill presses in AU. If you are going to spend less than $1600, you might as well just buy a cheap one from the usual suspects.

for accuracy I invested in a metal mill as for as I'm concerned was a good investment limited somewhat in depth of plunge
but great but anyhow,I use it for a variety of cuts in timber as well as soft metal.

The depth of plunge is one thing, but unless the mill is large (hence very expensive and heavy) the vertical space under the bit is limited especially when compared to a pedestal drill.
