Drilling into the side of dowels
Hello!
this might be really easy to solve but I am a complete amateur.
im trying to make what is effectively a ladder for building a bookshelf and I cant work out how to accurately drill 19mm holes into the side of 28m dowel.
ive managed to make a straight line on each length of 28mm diameter dowel for the 19mm "rungs" but I cant work out how to get all the holes in each 720mm length line up.
my initial though was to build a box that had the 19mm holes predrilled, then sliding each length of 28mm dowel inside, securing the dowel before drilling the holes.
any help or better ideas would be greatly appreciated. photo attached is the dowels i'm trying to explain

Your idea is spot on, a bit of hardwood or similar to use as a guide, a bit like a pocket hole jig works.

Hot glue two 19x19x720mm pre drilled strips to either side of the dowel.
That way you get the spacing across and along the dowels right.
Hot air gun will remove the strips sos's they can be transferred to the next dowel.

Can find it alot cheaper but is this what you're after.?? The angle cut out centers it on the dowel

Just clamp the dowel so it doesnt roll and use a brad point drill bit so it doesnt wander
