Routing on triton
Ok have played around more with steel but the wife has asked me to build a cupboard
so I have located the old triton and the router
can someone please help?
how do i get the router bit to stick out far enough out of the hole in the triton?..
do I need to purchase router bits with longer shanks? I guess that's the issue do I need to pay bunings a visit?
thanks

Hi Timbo
I think we need more info on what you are needing to to
How deep do you need to rout and is the cutter not long enought at full plunge?
Make sure the depth stop is not preventing the router plunging to your required depth.

What brand router is attached to the machine? My Makita router has a locking lever that needs to be released and has a knob that winds the router bit up and down. Also you may have depth stops preventing you from adjusting it as the previous post suggests. Perhaps you need to take the router off the table and familiarise yourself with its workings.
I recently purchased a router table e-book for less than $10 and downloaded it to Kindle. It is shown below and will give you a much needed insight into using a router table.

Thanks for the advice
Currently the bearing on the bit is flush with top of router at full plunge
It is a cheap from super cheap and I can't see a way to make it go any deeper
I was thinking a longer bit but they all seam to be about the same

Definitely something wrong there, it should plunge until the collet nut is almost flush with the router base. Can you send us pics of the whole router unplunged and then again as far as you can make it plunge?

is the bearing above or below the cutting edges?
how deep are you trying to plunge? 20mm? if 20mm = operator error, release all locking mechanisms, be sure that the depth stop turret isn't restricting the range of movement in the plunge etc etc. if you are trying to plunge 100mm well then you would need a shank extender.
you will be limited by the length of cutter/shank that is exposed from the collet. so for example, if you bought a cutter that uses a 63mm overall long shank with a 25mm cutting edge and you insert the cutter a minium of 19mm into the collet to be safe, you could reasonably expect to be able to plunge that cutter 44mm deep below the router surface. (its possible that it can go a bit further, maybe an extra 10mm).

Timbo not sure if this helps but I initially purchased a router from the big green shed and ran into your issues. Took me a while to realise that it only had a 50mm depth of cut. Sent it back.
