    Default Driving Canberra to Brisbane

I'm taking the family on a driving holiday from Canberra to Brisbane in October, then driving back alone (they're flying home, I'm not leaving them behind! Anyone who has driven this far with young kids will understand).

Any suggestions of places to visit on the way home? I'm thinking of going to carbatec and hare and Forbes in brisvegas, and maybe trend timber in sydney. Any other ideas of good places to visit? I've not picked a route yet, so I'm pretty flexible at this stage.

    Hit me with your ideas.

We came down that way last month and stopped at Timbertown Wauchope NSW. Not too far off the hwy and a very interesting heritage place to visit.

All centred around the timber industry that was in the area, including a steam powered saw mill.

    Worth a visit.

If you are planning on picking up a bit of timber on the way you could call into Mullimbimby Woodworks and see Big Stan or even Mapleman.

Huon Pine bookmarks, $10. He he, it pays not to throw those scraps away.

+1 for David Linton and Mullimbimby Woodworks. Both worth the time. Also might consider Lazarides timber. A bit pricey for my liking but you might find a bargain, especially for turning.

    HI Trav
Would love you to call in for a cuppa & check out the Gallery & Workshop at Artisans On The Hill on the way back.
We are only 10 mins off the highway, near Taree.
There is a map on our website.
If you happen to be coming by on a Tuesday or Wednesday when the gallery is closed, just give us a call to make sure we are home and come on in anyway!
    Cheers
    Peter

    Thanks all

Peter - I'd love to drop in on the way through. I'm working out the details now, though it will almost certainly be on a Tuesday or Wednesday. Most likely late on Tuesday afternoon. I'll pm to exchange details.
