Drum sander and softwoods - kauri, oregon
Hopefully someone has poked a board or two of softwood through their drum sander. I done it with radiata once and stuffed a belt pretty much immediately and loaded full of sappy lumps that would not come off.
Any one tried these?
Kauri pine
King Billy pine
Oregon [well dried ex old building]ray c

Kauri and oregan loads of times.
Oven cleaner gets those lumps off. Then rinse with a strong jet of water.
I’ve read that talcum powder stops the lumps and tracks forming, though I’ve never tried it.Apologies for unnoticed autocomplete errors.

Unfortunately that's the resin in Radiata Pine coming out, I try to avoid it where possible. Where I Volunteer we have a drum sander, and the clowns will run it through after it's been through the thicknesser.
Not a great deal can be done to prevent it gumming up, have been told that running a cleaning stick over the drum before sanding helps, but I've not had any success with it.
Have cleaned the grit with a toothbrush and acetone, with reasonable success, BEFORE it gets caked on. DON'T smoke while doing that though!!!!! Then run a cleaning stick over it.

I've run Oregon and Kauri (both recycled) with no issues. Clear Radiata isn't too bad in my experience, but if there's sappy bits it's all over.
It also depends on what grit you're running; 80 and under tends to be pretty safe, 120 and up needs more care and attention.
You could probably rig up a DIY belt cleaner with a row of micro air nozzles (or even just a series of very fine holes) in some gal pipe.
