    Default Ducting Costs

I've been doing a bit of research on prices for 6" ducting. In a earlier post, I complained about one reseller charging $22 a metre for 6" PVC and an another 100 metres down the road charging $14. I eventually found a demolition yard that sells 3+ metre lengths for $30 dollars. They also had a range of WYEs for $7 or so. I don't know the name of the place, it's the one in Cambellfield.

Then came the flexible ducting. This took me a while to find because I was searching for hose not flexible ducting. There is two kinds of ducting suitable for wood dust, one made out of poly urathane and the other out of PCV. If you want the Poly Urathane stuff which is antistatic, oil and heat resistant, you'll be forking out $75 a metre. The PVC ducting, I found for around $22-25 per metre.

My current project (though it's more a lifestyle than a mere project) is taking shape.

Here is what I paid last week at Reece Plumbing: (plus GST)

    6 metres X 100 dia SW pipe - $20.00
    6 metres X 150 dia SW pipe - $45.58
    Bend 100 X 45° -$1.23
    Bend 150 X 45° -$7.95
    Junction "Y" 150 X 45° -$11.55
    Junction "Y" 150 X 100 X 45° -$12.36
    PVC SW Caps 150 dia - $11.32

Gary Pye Woodturning has flexible hose at $15.00/metre for 4" and $30.00 for 6", which is as good as I have found anywhere, but I bought one of the kits which has 6 metres of duct (worth $90.00) as well as "10x4" hose clamps, 2x2-1/2" hose clamps,Tablesaw dust hood,Grounding Kit, 4 to 2-1/2" adaptor, 1 4" Y fitting,Universal dust hood and 4x4" Blastgates"

for $85.00 - do the sums yourself!

I am afraid to add up my total spend, it certainly cannot be justified in any practical or financial sense, given that wheeling the DC from machine to machine is not that onerous. In fact I could probably have bought another system for the cost of the ducting!!

    Looks good but!!!

Gee I hope it works.
