    Default Durden extensions

I have inherited a Durden Junior Joiner machine from my father. After using it for a few small jobs i feel the need to make a larger table area for panel cutting. I am thinking of building a removable table that would go around three sides but it would need a larger sliding fence. Is there some one has a design that has worked for them?
    Any suggestions would be appresiated.

I, likewise, inherited a Junior Joiner from my Dad, and it would be at least 50 years old now. My son now has it and it's still going. I frequently felt the need for a bigger table but the design doesn't lend itself to any extension as the jointer gets in the way, and the depth of cut is controlled by raising and lowering the table, not the blade. Learn to work within the machine's limitations and, if you need to work on larger stuff, lash out and buy a contractors saw. I picked one up, second hand from the Trading Post for a song. You may even score a TS10B if you're lucky.
Don't get me wrong, the JJ is a great little machine, I even bought an old one for the SIL, and I used mine for 30 years before I had anything bigger. It built over a dozen boats and a house full of furniture when I was first married (and broke).

Thanks for that information. i had'nt looked close enough to see the problem of raise and lowering of the table!!
It is a very solid table . Only drawbacks I see are fence snags easily and is fixed in one point so flexes. And the time to change to different functions like sanding disc, moulding head, mortiser . But i guess that would be the same on all multipurpose machines.

    Default Another proud owner

G'day guys, have just become the proud owner of a Durden Junior Joiner from my Dad and have to say she is a little ripper. No pun intended. I'm wondering if anyone knows where you can source some of the attachments that were available when this unit was in production. I'm particularly interested in the moulding heads. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

I've got one and made a large mdf/ply top for it.

The raise/lower mechanism isn't stiff enough unless you only do light jobs with the big top.

I don't like your chances, Klunk. I saw a circular some ten years ago from Durden, selling off spare parts at a big discount because they were not going to support the machines any more - They must be well over 50 years old by now.

Its a long while since I looked at my junior jointer but from memory the moulding attachments were short flat blades about 19mm wide and say 5mm thick which bolt to the buzzer drum so you can round over an edge. Maybe there were other cutters available but I never had them and I certainly wouldn't be able to locate the cutters now.

    Default Durden Response

G'day Bob, many thanks for the replies. Being in the Navy has seen me at sea lately, so I must apologise for not replying to your reponse sooner. I suppose I will have to keep trolling the local garage sales and markets in the hope of finding the parts sometime down the track. Again, thanks for the help.
