Thread: Dust control?!

My three circular saws, one ROS, and two routers all connect to 35mm hose via a short piece of PCV pressure pipe to the outlet on the tool. The only tool I had to buy a special dust port for was my Bosch 125-150GEX ROS. Their a mix of Bosch, Scheppach, AEG, Triton and Makita.

Pretty much every power tool I've seen comes with an adaptor to fit standard 27/36mm hoses.

the "better" tool manufacturers (Bosch, Makita, Festool) have a "standard" fitting that works with their brand of shop vacuum.
at worst, you may have to use duct tape to connect a 27 mm tool connection to a 36 mm hose -- a few inches of tape beats the hell out of buying a new hose.


IMO, the more important consideration is whether the vac auto starts with the power tool and the noise level of the vac.
a low noise level will keep you popular with the family, and if you don't have auto start, I can guarantee that you will be up a ladder and "just this once" use the tool without dust collection with all that entails afterwards.

My Bosch green ROS seems to have a 30mm port. Perhaps it is really 27mm but I don't know where to get 27mm hose anyway.
My detail sander doesn't have a round port. The SCMS has a 50mm port.
The Triton router has something like 38mm - I forget exactly. This is the only one that is the same as my vac. Same thread and all. But I don't know where to get more of that hose either.

I spent a micro fortune on fittings just to connect the ROS to the vac. This works extremely well but it creates a great weight on one side of the ROS. This can create very uneven results if I forget even for a minute to fight against this force and keep it level.

I have the shop vac and cyclone in a cart I built. This is normally attached to the ROS. I also wheel the entire operation outside to sand. So this works fine.

The router set up is a work in progress. The concept is that will connect to the vac cart. This will not be perfect but again the whole lot can wheel outside if required.

However the setup for the SCMS has a tremendous amount to be desired. I really need to do some work on this to capture the dust. I do have a 50mm house fittted to the shop vac. It is also on good casters but I'm yet to bother to wheel that outside so I need to raise my game with that beast.

Outside is not flat or even so it's far from ideal but it's a far better working environment. The other issue is that I have to play workshop Tetris to do almost anything in my shop. In some ways this is a good thing because it obliges me to wheel things outside most of the time anyway.

At the same time I am trying to figure out a way to house a DC permanently outside the shed and thus improve my setup dramatically.

My whole setup is very definitely a work in progress.
Any way sorry for the long post. I have the same issue as the OP in regards to different ports on smaller machines.

I should also look into the automatic start issue. Or perhaps a remote control would be easier?

I agree that one big disadvantage of the vac is noise. The other is that it is not very easy to vent it outside so I am probably just feeding fine invisable dust back into the air when I use it inside. This is why I usually use it outside when sanding even though the visible dust is almost non existent. Hopefully the cyclone certainly does help though because it keeps the filter almost spotless and thus functioning.

What’s the model of the Bosch ROS? Might have the same fitting as mine? I have a Blue 125-150 GEX and I has to buy an adapter from Amazon USA because Bosch Australia don’t and will not stock the part A piece of PCV pipe fits into it and my 35/36mm hose.
If it’s a rectangular looking fitting like this one, you can have this one I bought on BOSCH’s advice but it’s the wrong one. The round end is 27mm.

Various manufacturers have fittings on their hoses that fit over a 27mm outlet and into a 36mm outlet. These fittings go onto a 27 or 36mm hose.

This is an example of the Festool one and I'm sure Bosch has one also. They may not fit on your hose because of the direction of the hose spiral so check first or just buy it with the hose.

Where do we find these 27mm / 36mm vac hoses? And how do we adapt them to fit a shop vac or cyclone?

Take your vac and tool into a tool dealer that handles Festool and see if the hoses fit.

They're standard hose sizes, you can get them and the end fittings at vacuum outlets for a lot less than what Festool will charge. Google is your friend to find one near you.

Just use Duct tape.

Sorry, but after recent experiences with this shop I am reluctant to go back anytime soon.
