    Default Dust Extractor hose

Hi, The other week I purchased a 1HP dust extractor from Gasweld. It has a black plastic 4inch reducer down to whatever, about 65mm. I also purchased a metre of that 4inch grey hose, the one lined with something to ensure the dust doesnt stick inside it.

I am having difficulty getting the 4inch hose over the 4inch black plast reducer. Tried soaking it in hot water. They are very rigid, have a very rigid rubber type band running around them with a fabric of some description between that.

Any suggestions how I can expand the hose sufficiently to put it over the 4inch reducer.

    Regards, Paul

Paul - I bought a machine with a 125 mm dust extractor opening, so needed to reduce to 100 mm to fit everything else. Bought a reducer, and of course, OD of reducer and hose both the same! I went to Clark rubber and got a bit of (funnily enough) white rubber which I cut to size, and gaffer taped to the adaptor, essentially making a soft rubber coupler. Hope this is of assistance..

    cheers, regan

    Hi Regan,

Thanks for your suggestion. I've got the hose just on, barely just on. Maybe I just run some duck tape onto the hose and adapter, just to ensure it doesnt fall off. I just thought there may have been some way of expanding that hose.

    Regards, Paul

As you have found out boiling water is not hot enough to soften PVC but hot oil (be careful) or a hot air gun (keep it moving) should do it..
