It's now pretty much done. A very little bit of tiny tidying up and we'll be right (amazing what you see in a photograph that you don't see in real life hey!)

    Here are some pics ...

More "making of" pics here on Flickr.

    Cheers,
    Af.

The overall design is beyond my comprehension, but I do take my hat off to you for your meteoric proficiency in cabinetmaking. It doesn't seem like - when ever it was last year - that you were round here thicknessing some Elm for a rudimentary bench. And now look what you're capable of! The standard of workmanship looks very high indeed; both the cabinetwork and finishing.

Well you've set the height of the bar now, so when and what will we see next?

I know you believe you understand what you think I wrote, but I'm not sure you realize that what you just read is not what I meant.

Either I'm a good woodworker or a good photographer!

Your well on the way to becoming a seriously good woodworker. Love your designs.
Thanks! That's nice of you to say Lignum.

I probably should've made clearer though that the design is inspired by a similar one by Mitch Roberson (Nashville Tenn.) which I saw a photo of in a mag. Doing this type of thing though is really helping my "design eye" more which is fun.

The overall design is beyond my comprehension,
Hehe. The shelf is "floating" so it has two round bars that go into the back which are connected to a flat beam which screws onto the wall. Designed to sit near the front door and be a place to put your keys, rings and perhaps a nice photo/mirror.

but I do take my hat off to you for your meteoric proficiency in cabinetmaking. Thanks WW. That's really kind of your to say. I'm learning to work slower which is helping immensely. Taking plenty of time to feel my way through, make each cut as perfect as I can and spend heaps of time carefully finishing and refinishing. Tedious work but it's kinda fun once you get comfortable slowing your mind down.

Well you've set the height of the bar now, so when and what will we see next?
I know - each piece just makes the next one more of a challenge! Over the next year I plan to try a heap of different things to see what I enjoy most. Up next is a shaker style bench that my wife commissioned.

    Cheers,
    Af.

Love the design for the drawer pull. Did you think it up yourself?

I took the idea from an image I saw elsewhere, so it was definitely not original. I only added the curve underneath the pull so it moulds more to the finger.
