Esky / Cooler / Ice Box
Gday, for some reason i have decided i would like to make my own esky. I think basically i will box in some 40mm polystyrene insulation board with marine ply, rubber seal around the rim and then i coat it with some sort of resin or epoxy, very basic i know, thats why im here.
Does anyone have any info on anything to do with this project? I had a bit of a look on the net but cant find much. Help would be much appreciated
Cheers, Coxwa

Funny you ask I want to do the same thing.
I wonder though that the cost of it will make it not worth doing?

Way cool idea. Old styro fruit crates could be segmented for the insulation. A great chance to show off some fancy joinery and exotic timbers.
Of course it will be more expensive than a commercially manufactured cooler, I saw some in GO LO for $4.95 for little six pack jobbies. But I guess you dont get into woodwork to save money , I got in for the kicks and the chicks."We must never become callous. When we experience the conflicts ever more deeply we are living in truth. I think it will be just a little bit more than $4.95 and maybe one that holds a couple of cartons of beer with some room to spare. But if i can't make it there's always GO-LO!!

A guy I studied with a number of years ago fibreglassed a custom made cooler to fit the back of his ute. Something about B&S balls and paddock parties.
Anyways, make it look good on the outside and fibreglass the inside to seal it.
Other thing I have done is sandwiched 40mm polystyrene between colorbond steel. Made just like a toolbox with latches and handles and sealed with food grade silicone sealant.
