An excellent new Woodwork magazine
I recently came across a new woodwork magazine, simply called Woodworking Magazine, at the newsagent.
I liked it, and liked it a lot. It has a simple no nonsense approach to techniques. What I particularly liked it that they have no advertising! They apparently chose to go down this path to allow a free and frank discussion of woodwork rather than act as a sales point for those companies with the biggest budget.
They have only put out two issues so far with more planned for next year. The website is http://www.woodworking-magazine.com
Their layout is beautiful, a credit to their design person. The photos are excellent in demonstrating exactly the technique that is being discussed.
Personally I do not like getting the FWW magazine and having to remove a ream of advertising infill before getting to read the magazine. I am also well aware that advertising has a corrosive effect on the ability of the editors and writers to write without compromise.
What I particularly liked was the way this new magazine approached the reader as a person with an interest in woodwork, not as a punter to receive advertising. The editors have endeavored to look at a wide range of issues, sharpening, techniques and projects that the techniques can be used in, finishing and other issues. Well worth a look.

It looks like it could be interesting, what did it cost you?

I bought the first mag when it came out about two months ago. I liked it and I will get the current one (that you speak of).
My understanding is that this mag is brought out by the guys responsible for Popular Woodworking. Both are under the editorship of Christopher Swartz, who is a keen handtool woodworker (but not restricted to this medium by any means). Christopher is keen to push articles that extend traditional skills. He has been instrumental in increasing the readership of Popular Woodworking, to the point that many are beginning to prefer it to Fine Woodworking. Woodworking is an offshoot of PW, perhaps a little more technical than its "popularist" sister.

I haven't seen it in Sydney. I'll have to look harder as it looks to be a pretty good mag.
How much was it?

Sure looks like a worthwhile read. Haven't seen it around these woods though. I just ordered it online $US7.00 and $US4.00 shipping. Will let everyone know when it arrives and the AUD cost.
