expired liquid hide glue and crackling affect.
Gday,
I've got a bottle of the tightbond stuff that I thinks gone bad cause its not drying like it once did. Day after and the glue on one of my joints seems a bit rubbery. bit sticky when you sink the nail in.
Wondering if there's anything that can be added to it to bring it back,,,,so it'll dry hard.... rather than just chuck it.
Wondering about what experiences people have had with that crackling effect they document on the product. thinking if I could get this bottle to dry, could use the rest of the bottle to try it.
kindly
Jake

Jake - much as it pains us careful (alright, tight!) types, I think you'd be better off chucking it. It just isn't worth the risk of using glue that even if you can pursuade it to set, will probably be severely understrength.
Ya gotta stick with the roll-your-own dried stuff, china, to heck with this Yuppy bottled goop. Not as convenient as squeezing it out of a bottle when you only need a small drop for something, but so much more reliable. Getting a wax pot, was the best thing I ever did - so much more convenient than the old double-boiler gluepot, and it's easy to prepare a few teaspoons for a single joint, if you like. I also find unused glue lasts quite a bit longer, because it has a tight-fitting lid. If I keep the lid on as much as possible, it cuts down evaporation during a long session & minimises the chance of contamination by fungal spores & bacteria as it cools after switch-off.
And you could offer to do Brazilians between glueing sessions.
Cheers,IW
