Default Exposed door hinge screws on old cedar balcony doors...

    Hi there,
Great to find this forum. I have balcony french doors in a shocking state. They have faced the afternoon sun for decades, and have not had any TLC until now though I fear I may be too late. They sag and are charred and I am sad and guilty of allowing this to happen but can't afford to replace them.

When I tighten the screws into the jam and doors only a couple seem to grip. I basically know what to do there.

However, when I started to prep the exterior of the door and surrounds, the hinge screws were exposed through the worn-down wood. Any advice greatly appreciated. I can't seem to attach a pic yet but will keep trying..many thanks

So you can see the end of the screws on the opposite side? Like they have gone right through?
    Paint or stain?

Hi and welcome to the forum.
Three posts are required before you can post pics.
New wider screws are one option or move hinges to fresh wood and patch up recesses and holes then paint over. The old bit of matchstick in the hole trick will likely not hold the weight of a door for the long term. One of those woodwork tips I learned the hard way

Drill existing screw holes to fit these Taskmaster 6 x 20mm Screw In Insert Nut For Flat Surfaces - 8 Pack and use countersunk machine screws, you will be the only one who knows

I'm with RWBuild. Sharks Eggs are the way to go in soft timber like cedar.
