Full extension ball bearing drawer slides problem
I have a large, custom-built maple cabinet about twenty years old with four 24 inch deep pull out shelves on Fulterer 100lb ball bearing full-extension slides. Until recently the shelves stayed in place unless pulled out. Now one of the shelves rolls out about one-third on its own now and then. The resistance of the hold-close detent feels about the same as for the other shelves. What are some of the possible explanations for this? Are there any possible solutions I could look into that could remedy the problem with the slide fully extended so I can access the workings? I desperately want to avoid replacing the slides because the cabinet houses a large number of interconnected electronics which, at my advanced age, would be a real chore to remove and put back. Thanks in advance for any explanations and/or advice.

Thats a strange one, each runner would have its own soft close mech which don't wear out. If the locking devices are plastic one or both may have broken. The first thing i would do is check and see if the runner mounting holes are elongated, if so dropping the back of the runner by a hair may cure the self opening issue.

I'm almost certain there was no soft close 20 years ago.
Ball bearing slides generally have a resistance built into them to stop them from simply rolling out... It's usually a rubber stopper, for lack of a better word. Being that they're 20 years old I'd be thinking they're a bit worn out so they just roll out. That particular drawer may have been put in so it slants forwards just enough for it to creep out. Changing the angle so it inclines back will keep the drawer in. Best though to replace the runners. Should be able to use the old holes. Home Depot should have them.
