Female looking for tuition
I am a female living in the Perth metro area keen to get into woodworking. I have made a few enquiries but can't seem to find a suitable school that offers woodworking tuition for the general public. I don't know exactly what aspect of wood I am interested in but I have always wanted to produce my own pieces of furniture someday. Can anyone help????

Keen2learn, you can do worse that the community short courses run by TAFE. They have good introductory courses that don't cost too much. I'm enrolling for a wood turning course shortly. Try this link
http://www.tafe.wa.gov.au/short/Search_ShortCourse.aspx
or look up Challenger Tafe and search under short coursesSquizzy

Oh... and on this BB hereabouts you should be able to find a thread that goes through this topic pretty well.
Also try this link for the Dwellingup School of Fine...arts, woodworking or something..

For woodturning and also routers, Carbatec WA in Balcatta runs courses, one night a week for month. There are basic and intermediate/advanced courses in both.

Apart from Carba-Tec's courses, Timbercon have demo's every Saturday morning (free) which may be useful to you. The Dwellingup School of Wood is also home to a "Women in Wood" group which is quite active and has some excellent makers among them. Additionally you could also check out the Fremantle School of Fine Furniture - http://www.fremantleschooloffinefurniture.com/

If you're south of the river (or don't mind travelling) private message me and I will give you the contact details for a woodturning group that meets in Kenwick.
Great bunch of guys, there's already at least one lady member and cheaper than the Carbatec & Tafe courses.
Cheers

Hey jow104,
You might need to do a bit of brushing up on your tool types first.
ie... difference between drop saws for wood & metal cutoff saws.
