    Default Fence paling question, TG&V?

I am in the middle of building my fence.

I like the look of horizontal fence paling with TG&V look/feel, but I think I need to somehow fix it so it doesnt shrink/expand under weather, if I need to fix it, maybe a simple rebate like attached 013cb18f-9aa4-42d6-a272-a78252c0dffc.jpgwill do instead of a TGV? (so its like shiplap)

also my router only takes 1/4 inch shank, and I already have a rebate bit that can do the rebate so I am inclined to do the rebate (11mm x 9.5mm) only

my paling was rough sawn 25mm thick, I milled it down to 22mm x 150mm, length is 1800mm.

I think I will have 3 rows of vertical (900mm spaced, 75 x 50) behind the palings to fix them in place

Fixing the paling to the post:

I have bought some 100 x 100 H4 at 2.4m, but they warped after they been drying out in my garage, so I am going to use 50 x 50 x 3mm SHS as post (or 5mm) at 2.7m long (0.9m into ground).

there will be a couple of holes drilled on the SHS, and then bolt the pans of fence palings onto the steel post.

Will this work in the real world?

I’d change the 50x50 posts to min 65mm and keep them every 6m. Smaller posts would need small spacing between posts, as the fence gets decent wind loadings.

What type of wood is the pailings? Our wet, treated pine pailings on our fence have shrunk 20mm in some sections so pick the right pailings

As for the rebates, they be ok but allow for water run off so rebates down, and consider the shrinking size, it will open up so you can peak thru the fence. Suggest leaving the pailings to dry for a while, under cover
