Is it better to subscribe to this magazine?
I have been buying it in the newsagent, however, the newsagent is now two issues behind....

You wont regret subscribing.
Also if you are looking for something different try woodworkingathome - its a DVD magazine www.woodworkingathome.com - I subscribe to that as well.

Subscribe. With the aussie dollar the way it is it will cost you less than $140 for three years (21 issues) about $6.50 per issue as opposed to ~18 in a newsagency!
I got issue 178 in the post today (August 2005 issue). You can get replacement copies if they are damaged or don't arrive.
Best money I ever spent!!

Ian,
OK you can read a review by Dean here http://www.onlinetoolreviews.com/rev...kingathome.htm
I recently subscribed - for a year - which is 6 DVD's it was $US50. I think that you can buy back issues for $US6.95 or so and free shipping if you buy more.
The presenter Chris DeHut is a very good woodworker and presenter. He certainly impresses me. (For those of you who have the GRRR- Ripper DVD they will have seen Chris in action)
The format of each DVD is one or two woodworking projects - generally done by Chris - workshop projects eg router table, saw extension table, workshop cabinets etc or just projects like tables, cupboards etc.
There is a woodturning segement done by another presenter, and a woodcarving segment done by yet another presenter.
Then there is a tool evaluation or there was an excellent section on measuring in woodwork using vernier calipers (Ed 15).
There are other useful things like a DVD devoted to workshops - they visit about 5 - plus talk about issues related to them. They have also explored panels.
The other major value add in my opinion is that you get PDF's of each of the projects with plans and transcripts.
Personally I find it great to actually see the project being made and have the ability to read about it - I thinki that we will see more DVD magazines in the future. I think that woodworkingathome is now in its 3rd year.
Hope that helps.

Sounds good.
Sorta like having Norm or David Marks on tap but better 'cause you don't have to pay for the plans as well.
Can you buy an issue without having to subscribe?
To test the waters as it were.

Can you get it for any region or do you need one of those multi-region players?

As far as I know it is multiregion - it plays fine in my Pioneer and I think I have watched it in the other room on the Playstation. You can also watch it on your computer. Basically I have not had a problem.

I have to confess that I've never really understood all that region stuff. I just remember my missus ordered a DVD for me once from the UK and of course it wouldn't work so she sent it back and got a refund. Haven't bought a DVD from overseas since.
