Fine woodworking magazine
Hi, anyone else here subscribe to Fine Woodworking (US) Magazine. I subscribed a couple of months ago when they were doing a special offer - and a new issue has been out in the newsagents for a couple of weeks now but I havent got mine yet. Anyone got one in the last few weeks? If so could you tell me what issue you have.
cheers

I have had issue # 166 for December for several weeks. I should e-mail them and complain. I have found them helpful on the rare occasion that an issue does not arrive.

The current issue is the Tools and Shops Winter 2003/2004 annual special issue (#167). I have had it for about 2 weeks. My first issue took a while, but then are regular as clockwork. What a great mag it is too!

Hi Arron,
Looks like I'm in the same boat as you.
My wife gave me a subscription for my birthday in October and it hasn't turne up yet either.
We emailed them last week but hadn't had a reply by Friday.
Guess we'll have to keep chasing them up.
I know that they send them surface mail but I would have thought over two months would be enough time for it to get here

Mine arrived this morning!
As far as service is concerned Taunton Press is up there with the best IMHO Last year I ordered a couple of back issues of Fine Woodworking and after 6 weeks or so, when the package finally arrived it had been split open by someone who obviously needed them more than I did. (sigh!)
A quick email to Tauntons, and THREE DAYS later the replacements arrived by airmail, at a cost far greater than the original order was worth.
As a result of that I make a point of trying there first if I am after a book or product they handle, and have never had any reason to complain since.
Cheers.

Thanks guys. Mine turned up last night.
By the way, I saw a thread on a US board where people were complaining that the newstand price in the US had just gone up to $7.00. Apparently "no magazine is worth that".

Compared to a newsagent price here of $18.80 (Aussie Dollars but still a LOT more than $7.00).
At least in subscription it's only $12.00

I love FWW, but agree that $18 an issue is quite a bit...
When you subscribe, do you subscribe somewhere locally, or do you just subscribe directly from the US?

Directly from the US.
There is an option on the Fine Woodworking web site for subscriptions.
Cheers

This is A$6.75 an issue, which is less than any Aussie mag, which don't even hold a candle to FWW in my opinion. Shame shame shame. There is no discount for subscribing to the aussie mags either, so why on earth would you?

The cost for 12 months is $41.70 which works out to $5.96 an issue

Costwise, it seems Taunten press offer discounts on Fine Woodworker subscriptions periodically. Thats what I took up - I think it was about a dollar per issue cheaper. If you take up the offer on the website it is probably their regular subscription price, not their discount subscription price. If you want the best price you can use one of the US discount magazine sites - there are heaps - which offer the discount price all the time.

Actually Australian Woodsmith give a free back issue or an extra mag when subscribing.
