    Default Finished Toolchest Project

I'm currently on long service leave and indulging myself with a weekly session at Terry Gleeson's school in Dural. Since I'm carrying tools there each week I thought I'd make a toolbox to carry them in with the offcuts from some Mountain Ash. The available timber constrained the size so I sketched this design to hold some planes and a few drawers for chisels and other tools. Terry did a great job of rationalising my design to make it buildable and guide me on the appropriate joints for each part. Since it was a learning piece I tried to include as many new joints as I could: sliding dovetails for the shelf supports, blind dovetails in the drawers and a nice mitred shoulder joint on the lid.

Very happy with the result even though there were plenty of mistakes along the way which will be there to remind me to be more careful in future. It now has a place on my bench - not sure if I'll be carrying it to Dural each week given how heavy it has turned out, but the option is there.

Next project is a hallway table. I can recommend Terry to anyone who wants to improve their skills and get access to an amazing workshop. He makes a decent coffee too!

    Steve
