Finishing live edge table?
Anyone have any advice on how to finish a large live edge table? I picked up two rather large walnut crotch pieces recently after seeing some nice stuff at a show. The pieces are too big for my planer, so I intend to flatten them with a belt sander. They are about 2" thick. I want to leave the bark as it is. What finish would be best suited for this? Spraying catalyzed laquer? Brush on poly? Any advice???
When all is said and done, there is usually a whole lot more said than done.

Epoxy over the top of it all would definitely do, IMHO, but may not give the end look you want.
I have used shellac on a live edge but only time will tell if it stays or eventually drops off. Let's see, twas this one here.
cheers
