    Thanks, that's another good solution. The insert nut on the same page seems to be what I have.

    Meanwhile I have gorilla glued a 10mm dowel into the hole and tomorrow I'll put an 8mm hole back in to thread the insert nut back in and see how much of my son's rough and tumble it'll put up with.

    Default fixed - the home ranger rides again

    Thanks for all the support - gorilla glueing a dowel into the hole, redrilling and reinserting the insert nut has done the trick nicely. It might wear out eventually, but I expect not before the arms come off to let the boy ride freestyle (or is that bareback?).
