    Default Flat timber with ROS?

I'm making a chair which is made up of mostly flat rectangular components except for the back. Im at the stage where I have to sand it before finishing but my technique is no good.

The parts are all flat and square and I want to keep them that way. However when I sand with my ROS I manage to round over near the edges. The parts are a couple of inches wide, I have the sander on the slowest speed and I concentrate on keeping the machine level. I don't put any downward pressure on it.

I thought this would be the right machine for the job but maybe it isn't. I have done a fair bit of googling and am a little bit surprized that others don't have any problems with this.

If it is a Rotex there are different density pads, I opted for a medium when I got mine, I just let the machine sit on the flat surface in ROS mode and guide it, the machine does the rest and I have never had a rounding over problem.
I have watched people apply pressure and tilt the machine slightly (without realising it) and voila, rounded over edges.
Stupidity kills. Absolute stupidity kills absolutely.

For the unskilled like me: clamp the piece between small planks of wood level with the surface. Works also for planing long thin edges.

Easy and just about foolproof this way.

Thanks guys. I'll get my self organised with the appropriate clamps and timber and give it a go.
