Floor Lamp Base???
I want to carve a floor lamp base....not with a lathe as i don't have one and the design i want to do doesn't lend itself to a lathe. What I want to know is, how to drill a hole in a lamp base for the electrical wire? We have an antique floor lamp that seems to be made in one piece and the cord goes through the middle, how is a hole this depth made?

Maybe an auger like electricians use when drilling from the roof top plate down to a noggin?
Carefully too...

How big is this lamp base, and is it from one piece.
If the lamp shaft is lake 300 to 600mm you might drill it with a long drill bit from each end.
longer than that drilling that sort of length gets a bit tricky
there are things called rifle drills.
i have a long extension set for drilling down walls but it is expectd that you will be running a 25mm spade bit or similar... I think the accuracy would suffer.
one other option is to split the timber, rout the grove in bothe sections then glue back together..... and entirely more reliable option for long stuff.
cheersAny thing with sharp teeth eats meat.
Most powertools have sharp teeth.
People are made of meat.
Abrasives can be just as dangerous as a blade.....and 10 times more painfull.
