Folding lover doors
I am looking at fitting 2 sets of folding louver doors to a opening approx 1600 wide, each set of doors to be made up of 2 doors ( Meranti) 2040 high x 400 wide. My question is as I do not intend to have a half door to start off with in the set up do I need to have a overhead track to support the edge of the centre doors and just rely on hanging and taking the weight of these doors on the doors that are hung adjasent the door jambs.
The correct method of course is to have a overhead track but the cost of the track ex Bunnings is in the order of $120.00
Your suggestions would be appreciated.
Regards, Mac

I'm not 100% clear on what you are trying to do, but i'll give you an answer, anyway. You need the track to take the weight, but also to keep the doors from swinging free. Hope that helps. (if not, feel free to ignore it)

With beefy enough hinges & suitably braced frames (are you building the louvre doors yourself?) you don't need the overhead track.
But as TM pointed out, they're what make the louvre doors open/shut the way we expect louvre doors to open/shut! Otherwise you may as well just hang a single door in each half, 'cos that's how people will use 'em.
Unless there's not enough room to swing 'em open - eg. an island bench is in the way - in which case they'll open them until they "bang" into the bench and then fold from there... leaving nasty marks on the bench.
Teenagers seem to be the worst for this.

Why not use two sets of BiFold doors like this.

Just to add to how these work the BiFold is just a kit of a light weight aluminium track and a couple of pivot components and three hinges.
These are just fitted to your doors which would appear to be the same as my pantry doors that would be opened and closed 10 times a day for the last 25 years.
The pivot fittings are fixed on the door jamb side. One in the track and one on the floor. The pivot fitting on the other side on the top of the outside leaf is a nylon slide fitting in the track and fits into a pin hole bush in the top of the door.

Thanks Barry , your photo is the condition I am faced with and how I intended to hang the doors, the track available that I have come across is marketed by Cowdroy and called " Barracuda bi- Fold. The cost of this track ex Bunnings is $65.00 for a set of doors to a opening 900mm wide which to me is a bit over the top in price considering what forms part of the track set, it is a big rip off.
Unfortunately I do not know of a cheaper brand.
