Is Formply waterproof?
Bought myself a sheet of 17mm formply at great expense, thinking I might use part of it as a router table top, however just noticed that it has big bubbles around the edges under the red (hardwood?) surfacing. Isn't formply supposed to be waterproof?

Er, try $115.42 from the local hardware. This IS the far south wilds of NSW, after all. Original question must have seemed kinda dumb, but Black Douglas does have that effect on one on a holiday Monday after three weeks off.

I suppose its waterproof, but mainly the slick surfaces, whereas the edges aren't, especially if cut. I have tried using it for outdoor work tables, and they have a limited life. Also tried it for outdoor toys, seats etc, again limited, just delaminated like any other ply. Painting the cut surfaces will make it last longer, but it won't stick to the slick surface so never a good bond. In its intended purpose, formply is used maybe a couple of times then thrown out.
However, it makes a nice low assembly bench top for in the workshop, sliding work around and easy to clean glue spills etc.
Cheers,Andy Mac

The F17 Formply should use WBP (Water Boiling Proof) Resin in the manufacturing process. If you are buying the true F17 Formply, it should be water proof.

There's definitely at least 2 grades/makes of this stuff.
The Oz stuff is really heavy and bulletproof.
The Asian is belly sheep and useless.
Then again they use bamboo scaffolding etc.
