Need Formula for calculating Lineal Meters
Hi all,
I'm close to buying the merbau for my Octagon Deck. I'm looking in the Trading Post and see the prices in Lineal Meters.
Does anyone know how to convert a 5.8 meter x 5.8 meter Octagon Decking spaced 3 mils apart into lineal meters?
If I plan to use 70 x 19 planks with 3 mil gaps in between each would it be:
- 5800 mm / 73 mm = 79.45205479
Meaning 79 planks fit into 5800 mm
and since each plank needs to be 5800mm long
- 79.45205479 planks * 5800 mm = 460821.9178 mm
Meaning 460 Lineal meters ?

Hey I failed maths - so don't expect an answer from me.
BUT.....
What I do in cases like that is to draw up a scaled drawing. That way I can be sure of what I need.
HTH
Cheers!

Hi Barry,
I have just drawn up your plans in Archicad and here is my findings.
You will need 79 planks at 70mm wide
and 1 plank at 33mm wide.
This will be 80 planks in total.
So that will be 80 planks at 5.8m
= 80 x 5.8m = 464 linear meters.
As for your off cuts if you plan to design an Octagon Deck you will have many planks that aren't the full 5.8m long.
As mentioned earlier a scale plan will tell you the length of each plank needed. If you like you can send me a rough sketch and i will send you back the finished plans with a cutting list. It shouldn't take long with the help of the computer.
Regards

Hey, Hey!
Thanks Stinky!
How close was that!
I'm thinking my formula had the right steps.
I just needed to be more accurate.
How cool.
Although I've already sent the sketch to stinky I was hoping someone could tell me how to post a non-pornographic graphic here.
The Octagon graphic looks pretty cool too!
I'm sure I've done it before but can't remember how.
