Forstner Bits
I need to get my self some Forstner bits. I was looking for some recommendations and some stay away froms.
So what brands do and don't make the cut (pardon the pun) and what should I expect to pay. I'm guessing there are laws of diminishing return to be had so I'd like the best bang for buck option.…..Live a Quiet Life & Work with your Hands

I've found that the Carbitool TCT range of forstner bits are quite good and reasonably priced
Some people are like slinkies - not really good for anything, but they
bring a smile to your face when pushed down the stairs .

Another vote for Carbitool. Mine only HSS, but at $50 a box of 16 at last years show, I cannot complain.

I contacted Carb-i-tool today
I'm after your 16 Piece Forstner bit set in TCT with round shank in Metric. Can you provide me a list of stockist please. I haven't seen the TCT in a kit.Hi Dale
We only have the Forstener Bit Kits (TCT) in 5 piece - they also have a hex shank
You can view this item on Page 55 of our catalogue for more information
Regards
Sales
They have all the same sizes in the TCT as the non TCT and the non comes in a box with 16, how hard would it be to make up a box full of TCT and a price????
This is where Australia lack in customer service.
Anyway are the non TCT any good?? I want the smaller range of sizes not in the Basic 5 piece kits. May have to buy individual bits.…..Live a Quiet Life & Work with your Hands

...Colt Maxi-Cut
did I just say Colt Maxi-Cut. A little bit more expensive but well worth it.
Mine have done a fair few holes and still cut like new, admittedly only used in pine and tas. oak.
...and there is u-tube vids of how to sharpen the bits.

I've tried the festool forstner styled bits and was very impressed. I would like a set for myself but at $250 for a set of five I'm waiting for the right excuses to buy them
One of the features I liked was the centering pin could be extended out to allow freehand drilling at angles. They also gave a very nice clean cut and came in a nice case.
meanwhile I've been using Bosch bits and been happy with them.
