Tried a few of these compression methods!

But I still right click on the picture-send to-mail recipient-attach files/picture, size box appears-resize-cut and paste from the email back to a temporary folder in pictures (saves changing the name). This has worked for the last couple of years with both xp and now vista. Stuff this sounds like a long winded excercise, but isn't and has been effective!

    This one's pretty painless: http://sitereportcard.com/imagereducer.php

Just upload your picture, and select one or more of the results to save. No other action or input needed.

Irfanview lets you see the compression in real time (2 windows, one original & one preview) so you don't waste time guessing if you should to compress 50% or 75% & it doesn't alter the original file without asking.

    I like paint.net http://www.getpaint.net/

Resize to 800 x 600 or whatever then when you save, you get the option to change the quality/file size using a slider....as soon as you are under 100kbytes save it!

    I like irfanview too
