Or even better, send them a really cheap prepaid Android phone with a tracker app installed (e.g. Spyzie, Hellotracks etc). Could add a cheap power bank to keep it running for a few days. You would know where it went & so might be able to get the cops to find the bugger.

Sounds like you've done the right things, but gee, I like the sound of Poundy & RossM's revenge mail.

(and hi, good to see you here, I don't think I knew you were here until this thread!)
I've been finding more and more examples of this happening to youtubers/etc. Enough Australians on the list too, like Dave/EEVblog and Angus from Makers Muse (Sydney). It really seems like its just the unfortunate new reality.

I used to frequent this forum (I even have one of the WWF shirts!) and places like Reddit r/woodworking a bit more than I do these days - its basically just a brain power thing. Various (health) conditions make following along too hard.

While this may not stop this scum, you could add some information to your YouTube channel "About me" page - along the lines of "To any suppliers out there - beware of scammers. I occasionally do product reviews and in this case I will only contact you directly - I have no manager, business partner or middle man. The best way to check it's really me that you are dealing with is to use the contact page on my website for initial communications."
You're right, absolutely is a criminal offense, just not a crime against *me* so I'm not able to lodge a police report. The retailers/victims can (and should, and I'm helping them as much as I can).

Thursday night published a video outlaying the situation to hopefully catch the attention of other businesses, but yeah I think I'll need to update *everything* to try and prevent the chance of this from happening again.

I would agree with you normally, however... I posted a PSA type video on my channel about what had gone on, so that people were at least vaguely aware/warned while I have a few things to sort out, which I said I'd likely stop doing reviews because it wasn't worth the hassle. Within a few hours, the scammer emailed me saying I shouldn't have to modify my channel because of their behaviour. If only they had thought of that beforehand.

Whether or not that was a cover so they could try and get other things in the future I'll never know, but it does mean they were a viewer!

After the initial shock of it all, I am starting to calm down though

Hahaha, it is veerrry tempting, but just not worth the hassle!
