furniture making class southside?
Hi All, i just found this forum on google and am hoping someone can help with what i'm looking for. I want to take some woodworking classes in brisbane just as a hobby. maybe a 8 to 12 week course? no real limit on time. i want to start making my own furniture to some kind of standard that my wife would actually let me display it
i found this post but then realise the date was 2005... does anyone know if it actually kicked off?

I don't think that ever kicked off. There's a couple of woodwork teachers in southside Brisbane, Richard Vaughan and Bob Howard. Their contact details can be found here.

No, we never got off the ground. Too complicated and not enough interest. We're still here if you're after some timber to use on the course you choose, though...
We've moved around the corner to 460 Beaudesert Rd in Salisbury.Cheers,
Craig

Hi dexxl
I can vouch for Stuart Bywater (third on Wendy's list). I took his classes a few years back for nearly 18 months, and after a few years of on-and-off making hobby stuff around the home before that, I found it an eye-opener. The first thing we did was tune our planes to a very high degree, and it's amazing what a difference that alone makes. It takes the tolerances to a completely new level. I'm sure the other places would do pretty much the same thing because that's fundamental.
Stuart is a really good bloke, and a very competent teacher and (naturally) furniture maker. It's mainly through his fine tuning my skills that I decided to expand my range and pursue this craft on a full-time basis.
Good luck

Can recommend Roy Schack, but I think he's taking a short course at Sturt later this year. Bob Howard's a good woodworker, should be a good teacher too, I think he works in the same workshop as Roy at the 'Gabba. I reckon the first thing you'll do with either of them is tune your tools.
