Now I'm getting a little crazy here so stop me if you all get bored (but I love this type of maths and stuff!)

In seemingly typical amateurish woodworker style, if a simple ruler just doesn't cut the Phi mustard, you could lash out on one of these Fibonacci gauges.
I use an extremely complex system comprising a ruler and a pencil which goes something like this:
- Take a measurement with the ruler
- Write the figure on the bench top with the pencil
- Divide or multiply same figure by 1.6.
It's not foolproof and the complexity really arises from my basic multiplication and division being somewhat lacking. If you suffer the same drawback as me, an electronic calculator might solve the crepuscular arithmetic issue..
I know you believe you understand what you think I wrote, but I'm not sure you realize that what you just read is not what I meant.
Regards, Woodwould.

Waldo....if your into Sketchup it has an automatic Golden Mean function built in...just draw a rectangle and as you approach the Golden Mean it tells you....saves a lot of working out.
As you draw the rectangle you get a dotted line going from corner to corner and the words 'Golden Section' appear.

Thanks for the tip Ravna, I'll have to investigate.
Woodwould, a calculator only helps the likes of me if I press the right buttons.

Except mine is probably just from a bit of gum tree that fell off and onto my shed.

Even if you only have a ruler and a compass, it's easy enough to work out the dimensions without resorting to electronic gadgetry.
A few of us had a chat about this some time back. My method is about post... 41?

You actually had two methods: post #13 and #41.

Here's a diagram; just add thin wood/metal/plastic and rivets.
.
I know you believe you understand what you think I wrote, but I'm not sure you realize that what you just read is not what I meant.
