Lightbulb Gaining and Honing your Woodworking Skills

Many people look at individual aspects of woodworking and immediately make the judgement "That is not my thing!"
What we need to appreciate is that skills learned in one aspect of woodworking can usually be applied to make another aspect easier, more efficient or simply create a shortcut you had not thought of.
I have for a long time been of the opinion that skills taught in Alan Williams Bandsawn Box workshops have major implications to many other fields of woodwork.
This was reinforced recently when a participant in Alan's last workshop put up his thoughts here:

    An amazing weekend

Take a few moments to read it - it is entertaining as well as informative!

Then - if you are so inspired, grab one of the 2 remaining spots left in Alans next workshop in June.

Also - a heads up - Alan will be running a 2 day carving workshop in September - message me if you might be interested.

Anyway - if you are coming to the Sydney Timber, Tools and Artisan show at Rosehill in June - come and say hi to Alan and me.
We will be on the Trend Timbers stand, as well as the Artisans On The Hill stand.
    See you there!
    Cheers
    Peter

There is something in what you say as I have tried a few bandsawn boxes. I enjoyed the experience of basically freehand sketching out and cutting the shapes rather than keeping everything square and measured. Have not gone back to it as I did not get the bug so to speak. That said a few years down the track I used the same basic method in making a guitar. So even If you don't realize it at the time one thing can lead to another. All woodworking is valid.
BTW you'r link does not open.
