    Default gainsborough tri lock problem

    Hey guys,

am wondering if anyone can help me with this problem. About a year ago I installed 2 gainsborough tri lock sets, one on front door, one on rear. They are great handles/locks, I love em cause its a normal lock and deadlock in one.

For a while now the one on my front door has been playing up, you'll deadlock it, then try to open it with the key from outside (or inside) and the key just keeps spinning counterclock wise, it feels as though the cylinder isnt engaging the latch, in order to get it to open you have to turn the key clockwise again (as if to lock it again which seems to re-engage the latch to the cylinder) then turn it counterclockwise and it will work.

To see what the hell was going on I left the door open and deadlocked it so i could see what the latch was doing, upon doing so I could see that when the latch petruded out it became limp, i grabbed it to see why and it simply came out of the door! So my problem seems to be that the latch dislodges itself from the cylinder when I deadlock it, the snib function still works fine. I checked the back door lock and its fine, i did the same test and it aint goin' no where. I am hoping someone who is familiar with these handles/locks can give me some advice, I sent gainsborough an email yesterday but no reply, will try to contact them tomorrow by phone.

    any help is greatly appreciated,

    cheers,

I am not familar with exactly what you have but you might want to try the following.
What you might find is a screw or two have worked loose. Try removing handles from door, reinsert latch and then replace the handles.
When it is disassembled check that the latch is not damaged and will be held when the handles are reassembled. Also check screw lengths and condition of thread.
    Images are always usefull.
Good luck and let us know how you go.

    Thansk for the advice mate,

I finaly got to speak to one of the guys from Gainsborough, apparantly the face plate stops the latch from coming out, I had removed mine during the inspection of the lock which is why the latch could be pulled out. Still doesnt explain why the damn key just keeps spinning when you try to open the lock. Frustrating.
