Where do you buy wax sticks?
I have used them before and like the result especially on damaged stained timber.

No one so far has mentioned the issue of movement. Since the gap is between apron and leg, there will be some movement, and thus the "material" that you use to fill the gap will need to tolerate this. I believe that this rules out wax (which I like to use on surface blemishes) or Timbermate (which I do not like ever). Resist the temptation to mix sawdust and glue - it will go black.
Your best bet is a sliver of wood - cut a fine wedge and drive it in. The alternative is 5-minute epoxy coloured to match, but I am not sure that this will crack and fall out.
I have got so good at making repairs to my stuff-ups that I have come to believe that this is the real art of woodworking!
