Yep on the big cylinder you will need a regulator of some kind, does not need a gauge just needs to reduce the pressure, or purchase a small cylinder.

Shouldn't need a regulator as it is basically a Primus torch and they don't use a regulator. They have an orific built into the torch which regulates the flow and they are normally screwed straight onto the top of the Primus bottle without a regulator.
It mentions in the second paragraph in the instructions photo that it can be used on a companion bottle but no mention of a regulator being required.

A regulator is pretty pointless for this as the bottle size has no bearing on pressure. The pressure inside the gas bottle is entirely dependant on its temperature; a full 45kg domestic bottle will have the exact same pressure as a 2kg camping bottle with only a teaspoon of liquid inside providing they are at the same temperature.

Thanks folks ... do to the somewhat divided opinions I took China’s advice and went to the gas specialist place. Fortunately it’s only just down the road from work.

The long and short of it is that I don’t need a regulator. I ended up buying a converter from the larger gas bottle to the hose .... not dissimilar to the one in the Bunnings link.

They didn’t have a dedicated one so the guy put together one of of two different parts. Unfortunately it cost three times what Bunnings were asking however I feel that I paid for the advice that it would safely do what I’m after. Sometimes you need to pay a little more to support the smaller guy.

All good .... seems to do what I was after. Trial run on some Jarrah this morning. I have a fair bit to do so it could interesting - not sure how much gas I will end up using. Just need to finish prepping the stock.
